Square 1 Coffee was founded in May 2015 by Jonathon and Brandy Brozny. We were eager to start a new venture that would enable us to work alongside each other and would offer us the freedom to be with our six children as much as possible. In a way, we were leaving all we had built up before and going back to square one.
The vision was simple. We have always enjoyed visiting with friends and family over a cup of coffee. Why not provide a space where people can gather to enjoy excellent coffee in an atmosphere that feels like home?
On May 2, 2015 we opened Square 1. We continue to work to bridge the gap between high end coffee and community, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone to appreciate.
In May 2020 we opened our second location in the Westblock building in Glenora, but we weren’t close to done.
In 2022 we started roasting our own beans under the name Anecdote. We want to be involved in every part of the coffee process, from brewing to picking out the perfect beans.
Our adventure didn’t end there, though. We continue to improve and grow each year, opening new businesses throughout Edmonton.
